1. Frank Gore Rushes for 207 yards & 2 TDs
On only 16 carries, Gore tops the 200-yard mark with touchdown runs of 79 & 80 yards. Both of the long runs came on first downs and helped the San Francisco 49ers defeat the Seattle Seahawks 23-10 and move to 2-0. The Niners are 7-4 since Mike Singletary was named Head Coach in the middle of last season.
2. Matt Schaub Throws for 357 yards & 4 TDs
Schaub put up career numbers, but Andre Johnson sure helped as he grabbed 10 balls for 149 yards & 2 TDs. The Houston Texans needed a win after losing at home last week to the New York Jets. In a 34-31 game, the Texans were able to beat the Tennessee Titans at home and drop them to 0-2. The Titans opened up last season with 10 straight wins. Chris Johnson had possibly the best game of his life in the loss with 197 yards rushing, 87 yards receiving, and 3 TDs.
3. The New Orleans Saints Top 40 Points Again
Against a supposedly tough Philadelphia Eagles defense, the New Orleans Saints put up over 40 points for the second straight week with a 48-22 road win. Drew Brees also topped 300 yards again and threw for 3 TDs.
4. Eli Manning Leads G-Men to Victory in Dallas Stadium Opener
As Tony Romo was throwing interceptions (including one off the foot of Jason Witten), Manning led the New York Giants to a last second 33-31 road win in the much talked about Dallas Stadium Opener. I think the New York fans can stop worrying about who will step up for the incarcerated Plaxico Burress as Mario Manningham & Steve Smith each had 10 catches for over 130 yards & 1 TD.
5. Mark Sanchez & the New York Jets are 2-0
Even after all the trash-talking in the week leading up to the game, the New England Patriots could not defeat the Jets. For the second straight week, the Jets defense did not allow a touchdown, which is very surprising since the Patriots are supposed to have one of the top offenses in the NFL. Sanchez played another great game completely over 60% of his passes and throwing 1 TD & 0 INTs.
