Austin Daye

After a productive Summer League stint in Las Vegas, the Detroit Pistons sign their first-round pick, Austin Daye to a two-year guaranteed contract with a team option for the following two years. Monetary terms were not disclosed, but the 15th pick in the 2009 NBA Draft will likely receive a combined $2.9M for his first two seasons.

Daye left Gonzaga after his sophomore season. On a very well-rounded squad that emphasized team basketball, he averaged 12.7 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 34 games, while shooting 49.4% from the field and 42.9% behind the arc. He came to Gonzaga from Woodbridge High School in Irvine, CA where he averaged 30.9 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 5.4 blocks per game.

The 6-foot-10 swingman may weigh less than 200-pounds as of date, but he can sure play. Whether he is hitting 3s or blocking shots, he is a very productive player that shoots extremely well all over the court. Plus, he will be learning from the underrated, Tayshaun Prince, who possesses a very similar body type. Hopefully, Daye too can help lead the Pistons to another ring.
