More Defensive Depth for the Pacers

Solomon Jones inked a multi-year deal with the Indiana Pacers this past Thursday, July 30. He is the second big man to be added to the roster, joining All-Everything former North Carolina Tarheel Tyler Hansbrough, and is the third offseason defensive acquisition for the Pacers. They signed both Dahntay Jones and Earl Watson earlier this summer.

Jones played his past three seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, who selected him with the 33rd pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, and has accumulated 16 games worth of playoff experience. This should come in handy to a team that has not made the playoffs since 2006.

According to Jeff Rabjohns at the Indianapolis Star, the more Jones talked about defense, the more he smiled. This should come as no surprise as the 6-10 forward is fourth all-time in blocks for the University of South Florida Bulls, even though he played only two seasons there. He has also averaged 2.0 blocks per game per 36 minutes over his 3-year career in the NBA.

Last year for the Hawks, Jones averaged 3.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in the 63 games he played, while shooting over 60% from the field. Salary and contract details have yet to be disclosed.
