Former Oklahoma Sooners small forward Taylor Griffin signed a one-year contract with the Phoenix Suns yesterday. According to Paul Coro with The Arizona Republic, “should Griffin remain on the roster in January, his $457,588 contract for the season becomes guaranteed.” Not bad for the 48th pick in last years NBA Draft, even if it is 1/10 of the contract his younger brother Blake signed with the Los Angeles Clippers back in July.

The 6-foot-7 forward joins Earl Clark out of Louisville as the only other rookie on the team. The Suns might struggle to compete in the seemingly impossible Western Conference, but they were able to bring back Grant Hill, Amar’e Stoudemire, and extend Steve Nash’s stay in the desert with a two-year extension for a cool $22M. The Suns will look to at least get back in the playoffs and hopefully hit the 50-win mark, which they failed to do last year for the first time since 2004.

Griffin played at Oklahoma for four years and saw his scoring steadily rise as he averaged 9.6 points per game and shot 53.6% from the field his senior year.

Congrats Taylor! I don’t know if you should be more stoked on front row seat to the ‘Seven Seconds or Less’ Offense or the Suns Cheerleaders…I am leaning towards the latter.
